Ensimmäiset kukat istutettu - First flowers of this spring

Istuttamani ensimmäiset kesäkukat mökille tulivat tarpeeseen. Juuri kun käänsin selkäni, niin mehiläinen oli lentänyt ruokailemaan niihin. Eihän kukista vielä löytynyt mitään syötävää. Kasvihuonekin on valmiina ja odottaa vielä keittiön pöydällä hyvin kasvavia tomaatteja ja kurkkuja. En vielä uskalla niitä kasvihuoneeseen istuttaa, jos vaikka tulee kylmiä öitä ennen varsinaisia kesäsäitä.

Ilahduttavaa oli huomata, että viime kesänä istuttamistani uusista pioneista ainakin yksi on selvinnyt hyvin talvesta. Tämä olikin ensimmäinen kerta kun niin on tapahtunut. Ei siis kannata luovuttaa ikinä!

The first flowers of this spring were right on time. As soon as I had planted them, the bee came to look for food but the flowers were empty. 

The green house is also ready for the new summer. It waits for the tomatoes and cucumbers that are growing on the kitchen table. They are growing very well. I don't dare to plant them in the green house just yet in case there are still some colder nights coming.

I was very pleased to notice that at least one of the peonys I planted last summer survived the winter. This was the first time. Never give up!

Puiset kasvilaatikot ja orvokkeja - Wooden boxes and some violets

Kasvatin kasvihuoneessa kahtena ensimmäisenä vuonna tomaatit, kurkut ja salaatit muovisissa astioissa. Suunnitelmissa oli kuitenkin rakentaa puiset kasvilaatikot. Niinpä toiveeni toteutti puolisoni, joka rakensi ne tänä viikonloppuna.

Puuna käytimme täyssärmäistä kuusta koko 22x100 ST. Laatikoita tuli 3 kpl= 50x50x110 cm  ja 1 kpl=50x50x170 cm. Yhteensä puuta meni n. 80 metriä ja hinnaksi tuli n. 60 euroa ts. ei kovin paljon. Näissä laatkoissa kasvattaa tomaatteja, kurkkuja ja muuta hyvää syötävää monta vuotta. Kasvihuonekin näyttää nyt siistimmältä ja organisoidummalta.

Nyt sitten pitää ostaa tarpeeksi kevytsoraa ja turvemultaa laatikoihin ja niitä meneenkin jonkin verran.

Tyttökin mahtuu laatikkoon:)

I grew tomatoes, cucumbers and salads for the first two years in the plastic boxes. I planned to grow the vegetables etc. some day in the wooden boxes. So he fulfilled my dream this week end and built them:). 

We used square edged spruce size 22x100 (millimeters) and built three boxes in the size of 50x50x110 centimeters and one box in the size of 50x50x170 centimeters. All together we used about 80 meters of wood and the total price was about 60 euros. Not very expensive. In these boxes we grow many tomatoes, cucumbers and other good stuff many years. The green house looks now more organized.

Next we need to buy enough light gravel and compost to fill up the boxes. And we need lot.

Istutin myös orvokkeja ruukkuihin mökin lähelle. Kävin muuten uimassa tänä viikonloppuna ja veden lämpötila oli nyt + 8 astetta. Heitin talviturkkini jo 2 viikkoa sitten. Veden lämpötila oli silloin +6 astetta.

I planted also some violets near the cottage. By the way I swam this week end and the temperature of the water at the lake was now + 8 degree Celsius. I "dropped my winter coat" as it is said in Finnish two weeks ago and the water's temperature was then + 6 degree Celsius.
