Ihanat kurkut - wonderfull cucumbers

Tänä kuumana kesänä näytti kasviihuoneessa parhaiten lämmöstä nauttineen kurkut, joista useat ovat kasvaneet isoihin mittoihin. Tomaattisatoa ei näytä tulevan yhtä hienosti.

This summer the cucumbers seem to have enjoyed the hot weather in the greenhouse. Many of them has grown very big. The tomatoes have not been so lucky.

Ensimmäiset kukat istutettu - First flowers of this spring

Istuttamani ensimmäiset kesäkukat mökille tulivat tarpeeseen. Juuri kun käänsin selkäni, niin mehiläinen oli lentänyt ruokailemaan niihin. Eihän kukista vielä löytynyt mitään syötävää. Kasvihuonekin on valmiina ja odottaa vielä keittiön pöydällä hyvin kasvavia tomaatteja ja kurkkuja. En vielä uskalla niitä kasvihuoneeseen istuttaa, jos vaikka tulee kylmiä öitä ennen varsinaisia kesäsäitä.

Ilahduttavaa oli huomata, että viime kesänä istuttamistani uusista pioneista ainakin yksi on selvinnyt hyvin talvesta. Tämä olikin ensimmäinen kerta kun niin on tapahtunut. Ei siis kannata luovuttaa ikinä!

The first flowers of this spring were right on time. As soon as I had planted them, the bee came to look for food but the flowers were empty. 

The green house is also ready for the new summer. It waits for the tomatoes and cucumbers that are growing on the kitchen table. They are growing very well. I don't dare to plant them in the green house just yet in case there are still some colder nights coming.

I was very pleased to notice that at least one of the peonys I planted last summer survived the winter. This was the first time. Never give up!

Kanttarellikausi alkaa - The Season of Chanterelles

Vaikka vihannekset, jotka itse olen kasvattunut, eivät taida tuottaa satoa tänä kesänä, niin aina voi luottaa luonnon itsensä kasvattamiin antimiiin. Ensimmäiset kanttarellit tuli haettua mökiltä. Nyt vaan pitäisi keksiä mitä kaikkea niistä voisi tehdä. Kanttarellikastiketta, -keittoa sekä piirakkaan olen tehnyt mutta mitä uutta voisi kokeilla?

Although the vegetables that I have growen seem not to give season this summer you can always trust the nature's own season. The first Chanterelles are ready now. I just have to discover what to made of them. The Chanterelle sauce, soup and pie I have already made many times but what new I good cook?

Ihmeiden aika - Time for miracles

Olin vakavasti sitä mieltä, että tänä kesänä ei mikään kasva kasvihuoneessa mutta toisin kävi. Ihmeiden aika ei ole ohitse tänäkään kesänä. Kurkku, joka kärsi yllätyksellisestä kylmyydestä toukokuussa, on puhjennut kukkaan.

I was seriously thinking that nothing would grow in the green house this summer but I was mistaken. The time of miracles is here. The cucumber which suffered of the cold in May is having flowers.

Peruna kasvaa komeasti.

The potatoe is growing handsomely.

Chili tuottaa jo satoa. Jokohan on kasvanut tarpeeksi suureksi?

The chili is producing harvest. Is it big enough already?

Yritit ja lehtikaali näyttävät hienoilta. Tomaatitkin ovat innostuneet kasvamaan ja kohta on odotettavissa niihinkin kukkia.

The herbs and borecole look good. The tomatoes are growing fine also and they will be blooming soon.

Mantsuriankärhö kasvaa myös hyvin.

The Clematis Mandschurica is pretty tall already.

Ja kesän ensimmäinen mansikka on kohta kypsä. Ihanaa!

And the first strawberry is ready soon. Wonderful!

Hyvää juhannusta - Happy Midsummer Day

Taimenet istutettu kasvihuoneeseen - plants in the Green House now

En malttanut odottaa enää vaan istutin kurkun, tomaatin, chilin ja yrittien taimenet kasvihuoneeseen. Multa oli ehtinyt lämmetä kunnolla. Kastelujärjestelmäkin saatu paikalleen. Ostin valmiit persiljan, tillin, ruohosipulin ja uutena lehtikaalin taimenet torilta. Saa nähdä mitä lehtikaalin pitää kasvihuoneessa olosta. Myös perunamukulat istutettu muovilaatikoihin ulos. Laitoin ulos uutena kasvamaan valkoisen hansaruusun. Katsotaan pärjääkö se mökillämme. Nyt sitten vaan seurataan miten taimenet kasvavat. Tsemppiä!

I couldn't wait any longer. I planted the cucumbers, tomatotoes, chilis and herbs in the green house. The soil in the boxes was warmed now. The watering system is on it's place too. I bought the parsley, dill, chive and first time also borecole plants from the market place. Let's see if they like to live in the green house. I planted also the potatoes in the boxes outside. I bought a white hansa rose plant. Hopefully it grows well in the cottage. Now I just wait, cross my fingers and hope for the best!

Narsissit kukkii ja talviturkki heitetty - Daffodils blooming and the Winter Coat tossed away

Ensimmäisenä mökillä kukkii narsissit. Ihana väripilkku vielä niin värittömässä ympäristössä.

Laituri laitettu paikalleen ja tietysti piti heti heittää talvi turkki pois. Veden lämpötila oli 7 astetta! Saunan lämpö tuntui ihanalta.

The first blooming flowers at the cottage are the Daffodils. Lovely spot of colour in a colourless environment. We put the dock back and of course I had to "toss away the Winter coat". The temperature of the water was only 7 degrees of celcius! The warmth of the sauna was so lovely afterwards.

Kasvihuone kasveja vaille valmiina - Green House ready for the plants

Aurinkoinen ja lämmin sää houkutteli laittamaan kasvihuoneen valmiiksi istutuksia varten. Tyhjensin n. kolmas osan kasvulaatikoiden mullasta ja lisäsin saman verran uutta multaa. Tämä on toiminut hyvin aiemipina vuosina. Laatikoihin on tulossa tomatteja, kurkkuja ja chiliä, joiden taimet kasvavat kovaa vauhtia kotona. Kurkut ovat viihtyneet sisällä niin hyvin, että niissä on jo kukkia mitä ei aiemmin ole tapahtunut. Ensimmäistä kertaa kokeilen chilien kasvatusta kasvihuoneessa. Yleensä olen kokeillut joka vuosi jotain uutta kasvia - välillä hyvällä menestykselläkin.

The warm and sunny weather lured me to get the green house ready for the plants. I replaced one third of each boxe's soil which has worked well before. I will plant some tomatoes, cucumbers and chili. The plants are growing very well at home. The cucumber have even some flowers already which hasn't happened before. For the first time I try to grow chili in the green house. Usually I try some new plant every year. Some times with good success. 

Kasvihuoneessa on jo päivisin n. 20 astetta lämmintä mutta yöt ovat vielä niin kylmiä, että en ole uskaltanut tuoda kasveja vielä sinne. Lannoittelin myös muut pihan kukat ja marjapensaat. Nyt vaan odotellaan, että kasvu lähtee hyvin liikkeelle. Tsemppiä kaikille!

The temperature in the green house has been already about 20 degree of celcious but the nights are still so cold that I haven't brought the plants yet. I fertilised the flowers and berry bushes outside in the garden. So now I just wait them to grow well. Good luck!

Talven selkä on taittunut - The spell of winter is over

Vihdoinkin talven selkä on taittunut. Vielä viime viikonloppuna - vappuna - satoi mökillä lunta. Nyt on ranta avautunut ja koski kohisee paljosta vedestä. Muuttolinnut ovat saapuneet ja kauvan kaipaamani lintujen laulukuoro on aloittanut konserttinsa. Kaiken kruunaa taivaanvuohen ääni. Kevät on tullut!

Finally the winter has lost it's grip. Only last week end it snowed - on May Day - at the cottage. Now the shore is open and the water is rushing down the river. The migrant birds have arrived and the chore of birds has started it's show. The top is the Common Snipe. The Spring is here!

Kasvihuoneen ja keijumetsän talvinen ilme - The winter face of the green house and fairy forest

Kasvihuone on saanut lumisen kuorrutuksen. Talvi tuli sittenkin niin nopeasti, etten ehtinyt istuttaa kaikkia hankkimiani kukkamukuloita maahan. Onneksi ennätin sopivasti peitellä köynnöskasvit talviturkin alle.

The green house has got the snow coverage. The winter came so fast thet I didn't have enough time to plant all the flower bulbs. Luckily I had enough time to cover the climbing flowers.

Myös keijumetsä on verhoutunut talveen ja odottelee tulevaa kevättä johon ei ole enää kuin n. 5 kuukautta.

Also the fairy forest got the winter coat and waits for the coming spring. We have to wait only five months.

Olen odottanut koko kesän tätä hetkeä, jolloin metsä muuttuu keijujen metsäksi. Ihana!

I have waited the whole summer for this moment when the forest changes to be a fairy forest. Wonderfull sight!

Ensimmäinen kypsä tomaatti ja muuta satoa - First tomatoe and other harvest

Vihdoinkin sain ensimmäisen kypsän tomaatin. Olin unohtanut, että kasvamassa on myös oransseja tomaatteja. Ihana yllätys!

Finally I got my first tomatoe. I had forgotten that I had planted also orange tomatoes. What a lovely surprise!

Myös kurkut ovat kypsyneet. Kurkut ovat tuottaneet varmaa satoa aina kasvihuoneessa.

Also the cucumbers are getting fully ready. They are sure to grow in the green house.

Ja hyvä sieni sato näkyy runsaina kanttrelli löytöinä. 

And the good mushroom season has brought big chantarelles findings.

Kukat ovat edelleen hienossa kasvussa. Harmi, että kuva ei toista kauniita keltaisen ja oranssin värejä.

The lovely flowers keep blossoming.  It´s a pity that the photo doesn´t show the lovely yellow and orange colours.

Tuoreet kesäkuulumiset - Fresh Summer Greetings

Pitkästä aikaa terveiset kasvihuoneelta ja mökiltä. Kasvihuoneeseen tehty uusia järjestelyjä, jotka osittain vielä kesken. Tavarat etsivät vielä paikkaansa. Yksi kasvilaatikko puolitettu sopimaan paremmin tilaan. Onnistuin kasvattamaan itse vain kurkun taimet muut ostin torilta: tomaatit ja yrttien taimet. Lämpimät jaksot ovat saaneet jo perunantaimet kasvamaan. Istuttelin uusia kukkia kasvihuoneen lähelle. Ulos istutetut köynnökset selvisivät talvesta hyvin.

Olen niin tyytyväinen kastelujärjestelmään!

Laumaamme on tullut uusi jäsen. Ihana bernityttö!

Greetings from the green house and cottage after a while!

There has been some changes in the green house. Some of them are not finished yet. Some of the things are still looking for their places. One of the plant boxes has been divided into two boxes to fit better in the green house. I managed to grow the cucumbers. Other plants I bought from the market place like tomatoes and herbs. The warm periods have made the potatoes to grow. I planted new flowers outside the green house. The climbing flowers planted last year survived the winter nicely.  

I'm so happy with the watering system!

Our flock has a new member. What a lovely Bernese Mountaing Dog puppy girl!

Voi mikä kesä! Oh what a summer

Tämä kesä on osoittautunut hankalaksi kasvihuoneemme kasveille. Tomaatit ovat vasta kasvattamassa vartttaan eikä kukista ole edes tietoa. Kurkut ovat kasvaneet heikosti. Kukkia niissä on sentään ollut ja yksi kurkun alkukin näkyi tänä viikonloppuna. Istutin kasvihuoneen ulkopuolelle kaareen uusia kärhöjä. Ne ovat aloittaneet kasvunsa hyvin. Aion jättää ne paikoilleen talveksi. Parhaiten ovat menestyneet kukat. Ensimmäiset kanttarellien alut on nähty.

This summer has proven to be difficult for our green house's plants. The tomatoes have just began to grow and there is no trace of flowers yet. The cucumbers have grown poorly. They have at least flowers and one beginning of a cucumber. I plant outside the green house new climbing flowers, Clematis Mandschurica. They have started to grow well. I intend to leave them on their places for the winter. The best grown plants this summer has been the flowers. And the first beginnings of the chantarelles have been seen.

Kevään tuntua - The Spring is arriving

Mökillä näkyi maanantaina kesän ensimmäinen perhonen, hyttisiäkin on jo näkynyt.

Vihdoinkin alkaa olemaan kevättä ympärillä. Vaikka mökkiseudullamme on vielä osissa järviä jäitä ja lunta, on oma mökkijärvemme jo vapaa niistä. Vapun aikaan satoi niin puhdasta ja valkoista lunta, että se häikäisi auringonpaisteessa silmiä.

Kotona kurkun taimet ovat hyvässä kasvussa, tomaattien kasvu on ollut hitaampaa. Onneksi pesin kasvihuoneen syksyllä. Sinne on nyt helppo viedä kasvit kasvamaan.

The first butterfly of the coming summer has been seen and so has been seen the mosquitos. 

Finally the spring is coming even though on some of the nearby lakes there is still ice and snow. Our cottage's lake is free of them. The snow that came down on the 1st of May was so white and clean that it shined so bright that it hurt my eyes.

At home the cucumbers are growing fast but the growth of the tomatoes has been slower. Luckily I cleaned the green house in the Autumn so it's easy to take the plants there to grow.

Finally it has snowed a lot at the cottage!

Kasvihuone siirretty talviunille - Green house transferred to winter sleep

Kasvihuoneen kolmas kesä on nyt takana. Tomaatit eivät ehtineet kypsyä siellä. Otin ne olohuoneeseen kuivaustelineelle kypsymään. Poistin kasvulaatikoista osan mullasta pois. Pesin kasvihuoneen sisältä ja ulkoa. 

The third year of the green house is over now. The tomatoes stayed green and I took them home to get red. I removed part of the soil out of the wooden boxes. And cleaned the green house inside out.

Ehti sataa ensimmäisen lumen ennen kuin kasvihuone peitettiin pressulla ja sisälle laitettiin laudat pystyyn tukemaan rakenteita katolle kertyvän lumen varalta. 

It snowed the first snow before we covered it with a cover and put boards inside to support the structure of the green house in case it snows a lot. 

Samettiruusut kasvoivat vasta syyskuussa korkeiksi ja kukat olivat ihanan oransseja.

The velvet roses didn't grew up until on September but then they grew very high and the flowers were lovely orange,

Syksyisen metsän väriläikkä - Colour to the Autumn forest

Syksy alkaa hiipiä metsään. Haalistuneen metsän väriläikkänä näkyy ihanan punaiset pihlajanmarjat.

The Autumn is sneaking to the forest. The lovely red colour of the Rowan berries glow in the pale forest.

Nyt on kaikki perunat nostettu. Ne ovat todella laadukkaita, tasainen pinta ja maistuvat hyvältä.

Now all the potatoes have been harvested. They are really good, even surface and they taste good.
